Jamie Haywood, aged 24, has completed his last shift with the giraffes, lions and tigers at Dudley Zoo, where he has worked since he left school.

He will start a new job at Stourbridge police station on Monday.

"When I left school I wanted to do something with animals or go into the police - now I've done one I decided it was time to do the other," said Jamie. "I'm excited about it but I don't know what to expect because I have never had another job. It's going to be a complete turnaround.

"I've enjoyed helping animals and I'm looking forward to helping people - that's the way I like to see it."

Jamie, of Attingham Drive, Dudley, has gone through a tough selection process, including physical and medical tests, after applying to the police last April.
