A Black Country woman's arm was crushed when she was mauled by one of two rottweilers which broke through the fence of her back garden.
Jodie Ingleson, of Little Fisher Street, Brierley Hill, needed surgery following the attack on Saturday.
The 26-year-old mother-of-two suffered serious injuries to her arm, including crushed bones and deep cuts where the teeth sank into her flesh.
She was rushed to hospital by paramedics and is expected to remain there until later this week after surgery yesterday.
Both dogs have been put down after being taken away by police.
A 30-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of allowing dogs to be dangerously out of control in a private place. She has been bailed by police pending further inquiries.
Miss Ingleson is believed to have been letting her own dog out into the garden when she was attacked.
Her ex-boyfriend Dave Washington said it had been a frightening attack.
"The paramedics said the bite was so severe it had crushed some of the bones in Jodie's arm and she would have to undergo surgery to put it right," he said.
"It seems as though the dogs broke through the fence and got into the garden.
"The surgery to treat her injuries was carried out yesterday and she is expected to stay in hospital for a few days to recover.
"It was a terrible attack. What if it had been one of the children?
"They just would not have stood a chance."
Mr Washington said it was not the first time the dogs had broken into the garden.
"I have personally put up new fencing myself in the past because the dogs have got access.
"It has been a problem for some time now," he said.
Catherine Preece, a spokesman for West Midlands police, confirmed officers had been called to the scene on Saturday.
"A 26-year-old woman was taken to hospital with severe injuries to her arm," she said.
"Another woman was arrested at the scene."
