The Flow Festival will take place on July 11, 12 and 13 and will create a "fiesta-like atmosphere" with music, food and craft markets, custome guided walks and artistic exhibitions.

Spiral, a theatre group made up of directors, designers, composers, scientists, musicians and actors, from La Rioja in Spain, has been commissioned to organise the festival.

A large, outdoor water-based performance, which will be the culmination of five separate processions beginning from five corners of Stourport and then ending at the same moment in the basins, will be the highlight of the event.

Giant puppets will be used in the parades, which will also include performers and musicians. Workshops will be held with groups to design and make them.

The regeneration scheme, which was carried out by British Waterways, is costing £3.3million and includes the restoration of historic buildings, engineering work on locks, bridges and the basins, and the creation of four new gateways to the site.

The area includes five basins on the bank of the River Severn and is home to more than 100 narrowboats and cruisers.

The aim of the project is to bring the Stourport Canal Basins and their surroundings back to life so they can be enjoyed by both residents and tourists.

It is hoped by restoring them to their former glory it will increase visitor numbers to the town and help boost the local economy.

Organisers want as many local people involved in the Flow Festival as possible and are appealing to individuals, community groups and businesses to come forward.
