Wildlife expert David Bellamy headed an array of familiar figures backing the scheme to create Europe's largest underground tourist attraction.
The scheme to open up caverns beneath Dudley will also create a "green corridor" between West Bromwich and Walsall, breathe new life into Wolverhampton's canals and open up wildlife areas. Mr Bellamy said the project would be a glorious asset to the area.
Some of the region's most important political and business leaders joined Mr Bellamy at a glittering event at Walsall FC last night to back a scheme they say will signal a "new revolution".
It was organised to mark the first day of internet voting for the People's Millions Lottery Fund.
