Highways bosses from Dudley Council today said they expected the one-way order placed on Worcester Street would be lifted by next Tuesday.

The road, one of the busiest in the town, was closed off northbound, in the direction of Stourbridge ring road, for the vital repair works to take place.

Motorists travelling southbound, in the direction of Norton, have been able to use the road but warnings were issued for them to remain vigilant during the work.

The restriction was imposed after regular pressure tests by gas officials detected the problem between Chapel Street and Hill Street.

A diversion route along Heath Lane and the Hagley Road will continue for the duration of the works.

Highways bosses have also announced Racecourse Lane, in Norton, will also be closed for days from next Tuesday to allow repair works to take place along the narrow route. During the work, diversions will be in place around Norton Road, Heath Lane, Hagley Road and Worcester Lane.
