Police searching for missing 61-year-old Robert Baseley found a body on land in Corporation Street, Stafford, yesterday.
Emma Stanley, spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police, said: "We can now confirm that the body found by officers at 12.30pm yesterday is that of 61-year-old Mr Baseley from the Chadsmoor area of Cannock. A post mortem will be carried out in due course."
There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.
Large scale police searches had been mounted in the hunt for Mr Baseley amid concerns for his welfare after he went missing from Staffordshire General Hospital in Stafford on Saturday afternoon.
It was thought he possibly had the early onset of dementia, had no money with him and would probably not have known where he was.
Mr Baseley was well-known in the Cannock area and had lots of friends who had been driving around Cannock Chase and Stafford looking for him.
Around 15 police officers had been scouring Stafford and Cannock Chase.
