More parking wardens are patrolling the streets in Wyre Forest after major changes to the system for on-street spaces began today.
Wyre Forest District Council has taken over responsibility from the police for issuing tickets for parking offences following in the footsteps of many local authorities across the country.
A team of 14 wardens will be enforcing on-street parking, which covers yellow lines, waiting restrictions, loading bays, and disabled bays as well as patrolling council-owned car parks.
They will be working seven days a week including evenings.
There were previously only two full-time police traffic wardens for the area.
It is hoped the move will stop motorists flouting the rules and make it easier for shoppers to find a space when popping into Kidderminster, Bewdley or Stourport, for a short visit.
Anyone caught parking illegally faces a £60 fine, which will be reduced to £30, if it is paid within 14 days.
Councillor Marcus Hart, the district council's cabinet member for property and operational services said: "This is good news for Wyre Forest as it will really ease congestion."
