Actors, actresses and musicians from Yorkshire-based Mikron Theatre Company will be at Cookley Playing Fields on Saturday September 15.

Each summer, members of Mikron travel the country's waterways on their 70-year-old narrowboat Tyseley.

This year, despite the floods, they played to sell-out audiences.

They will appear in Cookley as part of their winter road tour and will present a new play entitled Married to the Job, about the life of Thomas Telford. Audiences can travel back in time and hear the story of the great Victorian engineer and bridge-builder.

He never married or had children, but dedicated his life to designing and building hundreds of miles of roads and canals, as well as bridges and aqueducts, which are part of the British landscape.

The play is the third and final one in a trilogy about engineering heroes from the 1800s, the previous two being Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Richard Trevithick.

There will be a pig roast, barbecue and bar during most of the afternoon and evening.

The play will start at 6.30pm.
