Cars collide head-on

Members of a family were injured when two cars collided on a pedestrian crossing between Hednesford and Rugeley.

Two adults and two children were in the blue Fiat Brava when it collided head-on with a red Toyota Celica at 1.30pm on Saturday.

A 61-year-old woman who was in the back of the Fiat Brava was airlifted to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Stoke-on-Trent with facial injuries following the accident and was later released.

The County Air Ambulance landed on a tennis court in Hednesford Park ready to take the woman to hospital. Three other people involved in the accident, which happened on the A460 Rugeley Road, were put on spinal boards as a precaution and taken to Staffordshire General Hospital.

Emma Stanley, spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police, said: "The family in the Fiat sustained various cuts and the female rear passenger was taken by air ambulance to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire.

"The collision occurred on a pedestrian crossing but no pedestrians were involved."

The accident happened at the junction with Valley Road. Fire crews released two people.
