A Cannock nightclub owner injured in a brawl in June will not get out of hospital until October.

Doug Wilkinson had to have surgery after the incident.

He severely injured his knees while trying to throw two men out of The Ubar club in Church Street.

Doctors had successfully repaired the injuries to his tendons and had got him walking again, but just 24 hours later the knees collapsed and the 49-year-old had to be rushed back to theatre for more surgery.

Doug is back in plaster and unable to move and said he will not be out of hospital for another six weeks.

He was injured after a fight broke out at the bar and he was trying to throw out one of the trouble makers. He fell backwards while dodging a punch during the disturbance and tore tendons in both knees.

The disturbance, between two men, got out of hand as Doug tried to escort them out of the club.

One of the men later jumped off the multi-storey car park behind the Ubar and fled the scene.

Speaking from his bed at Cannock Hospital Doug said: "I couldn't believe it. I was up and about for about 24 hours and was looking forward to going home when the knees collapsed again.

"I'm trying to stay upbeat about it but it is hard. The nurses and doctors are great but there's nothing I can do. Thankfully I've got a good team at the Ubar. I'm like a captain that can still sail the ship but I'm stuck in my cabin," he added.
