The hardman, who is from The Priory in Dudley, has revealed that his Mighty Midlander contest, being held at the Dell Stadium in Bryce Road, will be dedicated to his mother Sheila Rollinson. Mrs Rollinson died 16 years ago from Motor Neurone disease and the competition being staged on August 19 will raise money for research into the illness. He said: "I really hope as many people as possible will get behind this competition which is raising money for Motor Neurone disease. "I know she would be very proud to think the competition was helping fellow sufferers," he added.During the Mighty Midlander 16 of the country's most colossal contenders will battle it out from 11am.
Heavyweight Among them is Wayne Russell formerly from Dudley and now living in Tipton. The 34-year-old was competing 12 weeks ago when he tore one of his biceps while trying to flip a tyre.
Judging the competition will be Gary Taylor a former world strongman. Around 15 businesses have thrown their weight behind the Mighty Midlander which will have a prize fund of £1,500 including a top prize of £500.
Among those pledging support is the Vauxhall Dudley Motor Company, K2 Security and the local branch of Fitness First. Mr Rollinson added: "This is the fourth event of its kind but this one promises to be bigger than ever because it is a true national event while the previous ones have been between only Midland strongmen." Admission is £2 for adults and £1 for children.
