Mr Easthope and colleagues Robert Jones and Alan Bennett made up one of 15 teams representing 50 butchers across the country who travelled to Edinburgh to take part in the Guild of Q Butchers 2007 National Barbecue Championships.

Mr Easthope said: "We decided to go with the theme of gladiators so we dressed in gladiator gear and themed our dishes.

"Clarissa and the panel judged our entries in their raw state for presentation purposes and also as they sizzled on the barbecue. We are thrilled to come away with so many accolades and delighted to say that the award winning products are on sale in our shop."

The team's entry included Emperor Burgers include a blend of wild venison and free range pork infused with herbs and juniper berries, chariot's wheel burgers, caesar's chicken and roman ribs.

The shop's Caesar's chicken also picked up a best poultry product award.
