A couple bravely defended their village post office when two masked raiders carrying a machete and an axe burst in and tried to rob them.

The balaclava-clad pair tried to rob the and General Store, on Brook End in Longdon, between Lichfield and Rugeley, at 10.30am yesterday.
An elderly woman customer was in the shop, run by husband and wife team Barry and Eva Overton for almost 14 years, when the men attempted the raid.
Mr Overton was in the back but ran through to the shop when he heard the commotion.
The couple's 20-year-old daughter Annika, who was upstairs when the incident unfolded, said: "The elderly customer was chased through to the back by the man with the machete, then my dad came out wielding a stool at him.
"The man threw a large one litre glass bottle at my dad. The bottle was thrown, my mum pushed the card rack over and the guy smashed in the post office counter with the axe. Fortunately that was it.
"They were chased out by my dad."
