Crystal clear, it's best beer

A Midland brewery's celebration brew tingled the tastebuds of real-ale experts to scoop a best beer award.

Kinver Crystal proved a massive hit with drinkers at this year's Stourbridge Beer Festival run by the town's branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra). Members of the branch were so taken with the brew they awarded it the Beer of the Festival prize.

The ale was brewed especially to mark the 10th anniversary of the popular festival by Kinver Brewery and is a 4.8 per cent golden ale.

But staff at the firm have admitted they made a slight mistake with the name.

They thought crystal was the material which represented a 10th anniversary but it in fact usually represents a 15th anniversary.

Despite the error, Dave Kelly and Ian Davies, who own the brewery set up in 2004 in Fairfield Drive, Kinver, said they were delighted.

Mr Kelly said: "We were asked to brew a special beer to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the event which we named Kinver Crystal. We mistakenly thought the 10th anniversary was represented by crystal. However it is a good name."
