Bosses at the Merry Hill branch of Waterstone's say the last instalment of the popular fantasy book series has cast a spell over grown-ups in the area who are desperate to get their hands on a copy.
The book is due to go on sale at one minute past midnight on Saturday July 21, but excited fans have been able to place reservations to try and be among the first to find out how the story ends.
As with previous books in the series it will be published in two editions, one with a book cover designed to appeal to children and the other designed for adult readers.
And it is the version for grown-ups which has proved a big hit with Dudley bookworms.
The Black Country store is second only to Norwich out of more than 300 Waterstones branches for orders of the adult edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Walsall's adult readers are 46th highest in the country. And the Waterstone's branch in Greengate Street, Stafford, reports orders are also up on the last instalment.
Assistant manager Lyn Stubbs said: "We are still taking reservations."
Although the company doesn't release pre sale figures, Waterstone's bosses say that its orders for the child and adult books are almost 50/50 at Merry Hill.
Waterstone's children's category manager, Wayne Winstone, said: "Firstly, the fans are growing up. Harry Potter has millions of young fans, but the original batch of readers are now going to be hitting their twenties."
Self-confessed Harry Potter fan and Waterstones Merry Hill Centre ground floor manager Becky Wilkes added: "We have seen more interest in this book than any of the others. There have been lots of adults reservations, so we expect a lot of people to turn out to pick up their books when it comes on sale."
The Bluewater Shopping Centre in the south of England has taken the third highest amount of pre orders for the adult book. Sheffield, Leeds, Nottingham and Hull have also seen a surge of adult book reservations.
