Kind hearted youngsters are to be honoured for their work in helping others at an Oscars-style awards ceremony to be held in Dudley.

Now the Youth Council for the borough is asking people to get their thinking caps on and nominate Good Samaritans between the ages of 11 and 19 who they think deserve to receive a pat on the back for their efforts in helping other youngsters.

Nominations are needed for young people living in the Dudley borough who have made a real difference, either by dedicating their time, showing commitment, inspiring others or demonstrating exceptional ability and courage.

Both adults and young people can make a nomination and there are seven categories: Sport; bravery and courage; arts and entertainment; contributions to school/college and community; charity and voluntary work (group and individual award); and for adults who have made a contribution to youth groups, the Mary Grocott award.

Dudley Council cabinet member for children's services, Councillor Liz Walker, said: "Dudley Youth Council awards provide an opportunity to celebrate the work and achievements of young people in the borough which often go unrecognised.

"This is the chance for both adults and young people to nominate anyone they think deserves a special thank you".

Nomination forms are available from main libraries, the customer information centre at Merry Hill and all youth and community centres.

Forms can also be downloaded from www.dudley.gov.uk on the Giving Young People A Voice page. The deadline for nominations is July 20.

The youth awards will be celebrated at the fourth Oscars-style event to be held in October.
