Officers uncovered what is believed to be 1kg of amphetamine powder and made two arrests. They executed a search warrant at a house in Walsall Road.

Sergeant Jason Dorrington, of Cannock Police's Neighbourhood Response Team, said they were delighted to get such a large quantity of drugs off the streets.

He said it was a substantial seizure.

A cutting up board, knife and other drugs paraphernalia, along with about £200 in cash, were also seized in the raid at 7am on Thursday.

He said they had acted on information from the public about drugs misuse.

"We are primarily a response team that acts on incidents as they arise," he said. "We are increasingly taking responsibility for tackling community issues and drugs problems are high on the list."

Acting on the information, officers conducted a huge surveillance operation before obtaining and executing the warrant.

"This is a substantial seizure of drugs with a very high street value. We are delighted to get such a large amount of drugs off the streets," he added.

He said with the public's help they were hopeful of getting even more drugs out of circulation in the future.

"Where we have got complaints of drugs misuse in our communities we will build up intelligence and then obtain and execute search warrants," he said.

The two people arrested have been released on police bail until July 21 pending further inquiries.
