He left The Weary Traveller in Sutton Road and was passing St John's Church in Bewdley Road when he was attacked.

A man wearing a hooded top emerged from an alleyway and grabbed him around the neck at around 11.20pm on Monday.

The attacker then demanded money but his victim blacked out after being knocked over.

A passing motorist stopped to help after noticing the victim crawling by the kerbside. His glasses were smashed and he had bruising and swelling to his right eye as well as a cut to his forehead and cuts and grazes to his hands and knees. No money was taken during the attack.

The passer-by helped him walk the short distance to Kidderminster General Hospital.

The attacker is described as between 5ft 10ins to 6ft tall and of a slim to medium build. He was wearing a light-coloured, hooded top with dark hoops.
