A Huntington man who was the treasurer of Cannock Ex-Servicemen's Club has been killed in a car accident in Spain while on holiday with his wife.

Brian Cooper, who was 63, died when his hire car was involved in a smash, killing him and injuring his wife Beatrice.

Mrs Cooper, who is still out in Spain, suffered a broken arm in the crash and will be returning to the couple's home at the weekend.

The Foreign Office confirmed the tragic accident happened on Monday.

Mr Cooper is thought to have one daughter, who has been informed of his death.

The couple were thought to be enjoying a stay in a villa in the Catalina area of Spain.

Mr Cooper is well known by members of the Cannock Ex-Serviceman's Club in Walsall Road, where he served as treasurer for the club over the last three years and is also treasurer for the dominoes league at the club.

Paul Shafer, club secretary, paid tribute to him today describing his death as "sad news for the club".

He said: "We had a phone call from a member of our committee who had been contacted by Brian's wife to say he had been killed in a car accident.

"Brian was such a nice man and I think people will miss him a lot."
