Daniel Bishop was in a coma for 10 days at Birmingham Children's Hospital following the accident while watching England play Portugal during Euro 2004.

The youngster, from Heath Hayes, Cannock, now aged 13, had been watching the match at The Talbot pub and ran into the street to celebrate Sol Campbell's goal, which was disallowed seconds later, when he was knocked down by a car.

After his ordeal, the keen Liverpool fan is now putting his efforts into helping others who have been treated at the hospital's neurology department.

He has helped set up The Cerebral Connections group, which will be taking part in a 1km run, dubbed The Chicken Run, on July 1 in Malvern to raise funds to develop neurological research.

The group, made up of seven youngsters, is now on the lookout for sponsorship. Daniel's dad Reg said: "We have done a few fundraising events and walks over the past two years since the accident, including one at Chasewater.

"Daniel had broken his hip in the accident but he managed to complete the whole walk.

"He is now part of this group which is trying to raise money for the neurology department at the hospital after all the treatment he received," added Mr Bishop.

Anyone who can help sponsor the group should call the hospital on 0121 3338150 or email david.shepherd@bch.nhs.uk
