Gunmen showed a "complete disregard" for passers-by in two afternoon shootings near the busy Netto supermarket in Snow Hill, it was said. One man was stabbed and attacked with a brick as the groups clashed in the Temple Street area near the Wulfrun Centre. Six men deny more than a dozen charges relating to violence and firearms.

Mr Peter Cooke, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday how two gangs of young men fought on June 26 last year.

Gary Williams and Carl Wiley formed one group, while Isaac Frazer, Jamie Wint, Craig Stubbs and Lincoln Edwards made up the second, he claimed.

Mr Cooke said: "They were quite brazen in their display of violence on public streets. Guns were involved, produced from within clothing or bags and brandished openly. They were fired with complete disregard, not just for the people at who they were aimed but for members of the public nearby.

Mr Cooke said "thankfully" no passers-by were hit, but one of the accused Jamie Wint – was stabbed and hit with a brick during the brawl. He said the day's events could be boiled down to three separate "episodes".

In the first, it was said, Gary Williams was left with a facial injury when a gun he tried to shoot at Isaac Frazer in an alley near the Wulfrun Centre malfunctioned.

One woman rushed for cover behind a brick wall, while two other pedestrians fled at the sound of the shot.

Minutes later, just after 4pm, all six were said to have confronted each other in Temple Street. A mystery motorcyclist delivered two firearms to Frazer's team, Mr Cooke claimed.

Moments later, CCTV captured Frazer "perfectly clearly" firing a handgun at Williams, it was said.

A child was shown near Williams moments before the shots were fired. A brawl erupted in front of a bus as Wiley threw a brick and Williams pulled a knife, it was said.

* These are the six men in the dock and the charges they face: Jamie Wint, aged 21, of Viaduct Drive, Dunstall Park; Isaac Frazer, 24, of Bushbury Lane; Carl Wiley, 30, of Windsor Road, Parkfields; Gary Williams, 25, of Anson Road, Willenhall; Craig Stubbs, 21, of Higham Way, Fallings Park; and Lincoln Edwards, 20, of Merridale Avenue.

Williams is charged with possession of a revolver with intent to endanger life or cause fear of violence, possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition, violent disorder and wounding Wint with intent.

Edwards, Stubbs, Wint, Frazer are charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life or cause fear of violence, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and possession of a firearm or imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Frazer has pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm or imitation firearm. Wiley and Williams are accused of wounding Wint with intent. Edwards and Frazer admit violent disorder, which the other four defendants deny.

The trial continues.
