The recreation area, which runs between Collis Street and School Drive in Amblecote, has become a popular hideaway for gangs of youths, it is claimed.

Amblecote councillor Liz Walker said she had received complaints from residents who were very concerned about anti-social behaviour. She said: "I was contacted by a constituent about the mess.

"The play area is reported to be littered with syringes and condoms.

"The council has told me they clean the area three times a week but obviously something like syringes is serious.

"I have also had a complaint about the play area near Sainsbury's.

"Apparently there are young men hanging around drinking in the evenings," she added.

"I am urging people to go along to a Partners and Communities Together meeting (Pact) organised by police as it would help to have more patrols around the parks."

The problems have now prompted an emergency meeting to be called at Amblecote Primary School, School Drive, on May 2, at 7pm.

West Midlands Police and Dudley Council are to team up to come up with plans to clean up the area.

Sergeant Neil Higgins said: "It is something which has been brought to our attention and we want anyone who has experienced any problems to come along to the meeting and talk to us.

"We are teaming up Dudley Council to look at the possibility of clearing up that spot."
