Owners Tom and Sarah Hughes shut up shop at the deli, based in the new Chenevare Mews shopping arcade, Kinver, for the final time on Saturday.

The couple opened the business last October and the shop immediately proved a hit with both residents and visitors.

But trade has slumped since work started on a £180,000 scheme to replace the village's drain network in February, leaving sections of the High Street closed to cars.

The couple, who also run the neighbouring Kinfayre Bar and Bistro, have been struggling to keep the deli going through the works but said they had finally been forced to admit defeat.

Their energies will now be focused solely on the restaurant which has continued to thrive in the evenings despite the ongoing works.

Mrs Hughes said it had been a tough decision to close the deli but one which had to be made.

"When we launched the delicatessen last year it was really popular and everyone who came in said it was what the village needed," she said.
