Five dogs have already contracted the disease in Stourbridge and Wollaston over the past month.
Two – a puppy and an adult dog – have died of the illness, which is the canine equivalent of gastroenteritis and is one of the most serious conditions for canines.
Experts from Wollaston's AK Duncan Veterinary Surgery, where the animals have been treated, say there are usually only a few cases of the disease reported over an entire year.
Five incidents of parvovirus in such a short space of time represents a serious outbreak and dog owners need to take precautions to ensure their own pet stays safe, they add.
Pet owners across the region are now being urged to ensure their pets are up-to-date with vaccinations as the disease is easily spread.
Humans can carry the virus on their hands and feet, unknowingly passing them on to a dog when they stroke them.
