A teenager was found murdered in her flat close to Rugeley town centre today.  A teenager was found murdered in her flat close to Rugeley town centre today. Police were called to the flat in Armitage Road at 3.30am and discovered the dead body of the girl who is thought to be 19-years-old.  A 24-year-old man from Rugeley was arrested on suspicion of murder at 3.45am and was helping police with their inquiries. Police were called to the flat in Armitage Road at 3.30am and discovered the dead body of the girl who is thought to be 19-years-old.

A 24-year-old man from Rugeley was arrested on suspicion of murder at 3.45am and was helping police with their inquiries.

The flat, a couple of doors away from Kelly's Bar and Restaurant and opposite the junction with Arch Street, was sealed off by police.

Forensic officers were at the scene today collecting evidence and taking video footage while detectives carried out door-to-door inquiries.

A post mortem was due to be carried out and her next of kin was being informed.

Peter Bate, spokesman for Staffordshire Police, said: "The victim is believed to be a 19-year-old woman who lived at the flat where she was found. Formal identification is likely to take place today. A murder inquiry has been launched by detectives from the force's major investigations unit based at Lichfield."

Armitage Road was expected to be closed for most of the day.

Neighbour Emma Neenan, aged 26, said: "Rugeley is becoming more and more like everywhere else. There is more violence happening and it's very worrying."

Another neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: "It's a terrible thing and I am shocked to hear about it. I am gobsmacked."
