Drivers claim they are often left having to cross their legs because travel company Centro does not open toilets at the bus station in Stourbridge early enough on certain days.

Travel West Midlands drivers have their own facilities at the station in Vauxhall Road – but drivers for other companies using the station have nowhere to spend a penny. They say the toilets, which are also used by passengers, are sometimes not opened up until 11am.

One driver, who did not want to be named, said: "The toilets are often padlocked up in the mornings and there is nowhere else to go.

"We might only have a couple of minutes in between arrivals and departures and we do not have time to run into the town centre. It is ridiculous."

Centro spokeswoman Babs Coombes said: "We were not aware of any problems but we apologise for any inconvenience.

"From this Sunday there will be a new caretaking contract, which means the toilets will be open from 6am to the evening."

Centro unveiled new plans for the town station last year. Centro has come up with plans to modernise the outdated station in Vauxhall Road and improve access for buses and passengers. The overhaul, which could top £3.5million, will mean the present layout of the station is scrapped.
