Bikers have been banned from parking motorcycles on Bewdley's Civic Space which was created as part of the town's £11 million flood defence scheme. They will have to use a specially created parking bay to prevent damage to the landscaped area earmarked for outdoor theatre and musical performances.
The move follows ongoing complaints from residents and traders about damage and oil leaks on the stoned landscaped area.
Now bikers will be able to park free of charge by the riverside footpath at Dog Lane car park.
Police warning notices were today posted along Severnside North warning motorcyclists that if they ignore the new parking arrangements they could face a fine of £30.
Sergeant Chris Aimes, of Bewdley police, said: "The parking of motorbikes along Severnside North has been a contentious issue for several years. Now that a designated area has been provided on Dog Lane car park, we will be advising bikers to park there rather than along Severnside North."
Inspector Paul Crowley said: "The issue of parking along this street in Bewdley has been the subject of much debate and there is no easy solution. There have been no complaints from a safety perspective."
