The crackdown follows a string of distraction burglaries by conmen who have tricked their way into people's homes.

Under the high profile operation, uniformed and plain clothes officers will hit the streets to check up on trades people across the Chase division to ensure they are genuine.

Detective Inspector Pete Wyatt said the targeted campaign was to begin immediately.

"We are cracking down on bogus callers who take advantage of the elderly and vulnerable members of the community," he said. "Officers will be speaking to trades people working across the division, to check out their credentials and ensure that they are carrying out bona fide work."
