Plumber John Jillings is expected to stand for election to the district council in the Rawnsley ward.

Mr Jillings claimed that the problem of fly-tipping on the edge of the Chase was increasing.

He said: "The number of calls I have been receiving on this topic has been increasing over recent months, and it is now almost impossible to travel any distance around the more rural parts of the district without seeing rubbish dumped on the side of the roads.

"I think part of the problem is the lack of policing in the villages, the fly tippers simply know that they stand very little chance of being caught in the act. I think we also need the environmental health people at the council to start examining some of the rubbish to see if they can get any clues as to who is carrying this out," he continued.

"However, I would also ask the public to report any dumping that they see."

Karen Sulway, environmental protection manager at the district council said officers already checked illegally dumped rubbish.
