At Cannock Magistrates Court 32-year-old Darren Robbins was given a 10-month jail sentence yesterday after he admitted stealing thousands of pounds worth of equipment.

Robbins, of no fixed abode, admitted stealing two Tom Tom Satellite Navigation systems worth £575 in January and February and asked for 24 similar offences to be taken into consideration.

Mrs Lorraine Anson, prosecuting, said Robbins was caught after he targeted a van parked in Cannock town centre on February 10.

She said: "The victim parked his van outside the Nationwide building society where it was attacked by the defendant." Police searched the town and were assisted by the victim who identified Robbins from the police car.

Mrs Anson said Robbins was arrested in January after smashing the window of a car parked at Hilton services on the M6.

Mr Paul Jenkins, defending asked for a community order with strict conditions, including living at a Stafford hostel, but he was sentenced to six months jail, cut to five months for an early guilty plea, on both charges. Sentences run consecutively.
