The closed-circuit television system, part of a £1.2 million improvement scheme for the Hurcott Road estate, at the Horsefair, is being installed by Wyre Forest Community Housing to beef up security and help stamp out anti-social behaviour.
It will enable staff to shout warnings to vandals and yobs seen causing a nuisance and is set to become fully operational this month in each of the three tower blocks, which together contain 120 flats.
The cameras are similar to ones already being used successfully in Dudley.
Controllers monitoring the blocks will not be able to hold a two-way conversation but housing bosses believe the new hi-tech system will help crackdown on problems of anti-social behaviour as well as boost security.
Cameras are already positioned in the estate grounds, the entrance to flats, lobby and lift, and housing chiefs said today the extra 33 "talking" ones would be positioned on landings and stairwells and provide "extra security". Cameras will be monitored by Community Housing staff.
