Bosses at the Picture House, Hagley Road, say the number of new bars opening in High Street has had a major impact.

A strict new admissions policy demanding identification for people who look under 25 also took a toll.

Managers will monitor trade closely and unless it improves significantly will close at the end of the month, with the loss of 35 jobs. Plans to turn the disused bowling alley upstairs into a function room and lap dancing club are now also limbo.

Manager Chris Stanley today: "At one time everyone was saying Stourbridge was a ghost town during the evenings which was something many of these new bars seized on.

"It has now gone in the opposite direction."
