Transport officials at Dudley Council have targeted a number of notorious roads as part of the scheme and hope to install cameras in Audnam, Amblecote, Brierley Hill, Stourbridge, Sedgley, Coseley, Halesowen and Harts Hill.

The proposals have been out for consultation over the last few weeks but bosses say no one has spoken out against them.

Campaigners against speed cameras nationwide have dubbed them money making machines, but across the region there are up to 200 sites which have been earmarked as possible locations.

There are around 300 fixed roadside cameras in the West Midlands.

Dudley Council spokesman Phil Parker said: "The consultation has now been completed and the proposals will be considered by the relevant cabinet member in the next few weeks."

The plans are expected to be rubber stamped by Dudley transport boss Councillor Angus Adams.

It will pave the way for the cameras to be erected by the West Midlands Casualty Reduction Partnership.

The partnership has given its backing to the move, and officials at Dudley Council say they hope their installation will have an immediate impact.

West Midlands Casualty Reduction Partnership, made up of West Midlands Police, local authorities, the courts and RoSPA, say the sites have been chosen because they are accident blackspots.

The traps look set to be installed in: Brettell Lane, Audnam; High Street, Amblecote; Moor Street, Brierley Hill; New Road, Stourbridge; Gorge Road, Sedgley; Gough Road, Coseley and Stourbridge Road, in Halesowen and Harts Hill.
