It follows the success of the district's first static camera which has been set up on Minster Road.

Town councillor David Little was so impressed with the camera, he wants one erected in Windermere Way outside Stourport High School.

A camera was put up outside the New Manor Inn in October and has been effective in slowing drivers down.

Councillor Little says cars regularly speed at up to 60mph along the 30 mph road and use it as a shortcut to Bewdley via Burlish Crossing.

He fears it will only be a matter of time before a pupil is seriously injured or even killed. The school currently has around 900 pupils which could rise to around 1,400 in September following the county's two tier education changes.

Councillor Little said: "We need a camera outside Stourport school to have the same impact.

"The school will have even more pupils from September and we must act now.

"Residents regularly complain about cars speeding and it is only a matter of time before somebody is seriously hurt or even killed."

West Mercia Safety Camera Partnership Chris Ammonds said: "If the town council raises this issue with us then we would look into it in conjunction with the police and county council."
