Work on a congestion-busting £1m road improvement scheme will start near Lichfield on Monday.

The work in Wood End Lane and Gorse Lane at Fradley is being undertaken to help local industry and businesses continue to boom.

The county council's contractor will be moving in to widen the busy country lane from Monday, with work expected to last for six months.

Funding from previous developments on Fradley Park has already delivered a widening scheme between the Lucas factory and the A38.

And this next section of improvements - Wood End Lane between East Hill and Gorse Lane, and 500 metres of Gorse Lane - has been funded as part of the planning approval for even further development, and jobs, at the site.

Councillor John Wakefield, the county council's regeneration chief, said as business and jobs have grown in the area, so too have traffic pressures. Therefore this improvement programme will reduce congestion.

The existing roadway will be widened from six metres to 7.3m, the highway resurfaced and new sustainable drainage systems created.
