Police focus on motto

Seven top police officers have been taken off crime fighting duties while they think of ways to improve the motto and image of West Midlands Police, it was revealed today.

The chief superintendent, three chief inspectors, two inspectors and a sergeant have formed a "Futures Team" to review all aspects of policing in the region.

The team - whose combined salary is £300,000 - was formed when the proposed merger of police forces collapsed in August last year.

They are working on improving the force's current vision statement - 'To reduce crime and disorder and make our communities feel safer. Building on success - feeling the difference.'

Assistant Chief Constable Nick Tofiluk said West Midlands Police was the best performing metropolitan force in the country and officers wanted to build on the success.

"The team has been involved in reviewing all aspects of policing in the West Midlands," he said.

"The Futures Team has given all police officers and staff the opportunity to contribute to a review of the force's vision statement. This has had a great response."
