An accident on the A38 at Fradley, north of the city, added to congestion caused by the widening of the West Coast Main Line railway. South of Lichfield, faults with the traffic lights at Bassetts Pole island caused up to three miles of tailbacks to Swinfen Island.

And in Shenstone, a car collided with a deer in Hollyhill Road at 7.20am.
