The first permanent ice skating rink in Cannock will open this week, bosses said today. Workers are battling to get the £1 million rink ready by Friday.
Staff spent the weekend creating the ice surface of the rink.
Mark Johnson, managing director of Silver Blades Cannock, said: "Everything is full steam ahead now to get ready for the opening which we've decided will definitely, 100 per cent, be February 2.
"Everyone is working really hard to get things ready because we are keen to get the doors open and let people onto the ice. It will be an exciting week."
The rink is in units at Lakeside Plaza, off Walkmill Lane, Bridgtown, and will open its doors at 6pm for business leaders and guests while the general opening for the public will be at 8pm.
Mr Johnson has worked in the ice rink industry for some 18 years and as a general manager for nine years, overseeing the running of six ice rinks and an ice hockey team. He said various sessions would take place to cater for people of all ages including lessons, a calorie-burning Ice Fitness session, a skating session for over 50s and ice discos with music from a DJ console in the centre of the rinks.
