A sell-out crowd will gather at Dudley Concert Hall to watch the unveiling of a civic plaque in his memory.

A charity concert featuring a star-studded line-up including Roy Hudd and Jimmy Cricket will take place afterwards.Organisers hope to relaunch the variety show in the town. The achievements of fellow Dudley entertainer Clarkson Rose will also be remembered when a blue plaque is unveiled in his honour.

The show called, Our Boy Bill, starts at 7pm. Stars volunteering their services include Billy's best friend Roy Hudd, Joan Regan, Jimmy Cricket, Lizzie Wiggins, Ed Doolan and many more.

The evening will feature a DVD of Billy Dainty being interviewed by Ed Doolan and the Royal Variety act which Billy performed to the Queen Mother.

Billy Dainty died aged 59 in 1986. His plaque will be unveiled by his son Laurence Dainty and Roy Hudd.

Mr Dainty said his father would be delighted.

"He was very proud of his roots. It will be a really fitting tribute to him."
