Dog fouling blamed for school run

Most parents drive their children to a Kidderminster school rather than allow them to walk because of dog fouling on pavements, it was claimed today.

The strength of feeling is revealed in responses to a travel plan questionnaire.

Eighty per cent of parents who responded to the survey blamed dog mess in the Offmore Road and Leswell Street areas for their decision to drive their children to St Ambrose Roman Catholic Primary School.

Travel plans are aimed at helping persuade people to leave their car at home and walk their children to school to help reduce traffic fumes and encourage pupils to exercise more and have healthier lifestyles.

Now Wyre Forest District Council Liberal and Worcestershire County councillor Fran Oborski has called for action by Wyre Forest District Council and Worcestershire County Council.

Councillor Mrs Oborski said: "Firstly I want to contact all the public authorities involved in this dog fouling issue to organise an immediate blitz to clear up the mess.

"But more importantly I want a long-term strategy devised in order to thoroughly tackle the issue in this area, once and for all, and to enable local youngsters to start travelling to school on foot."
