The driver stopped the bus near Windermere Road, Claregate, when half of the 40 people on board surrounded him, ripped out seats and banged on his cab screen.He locked himself in his cab but a girl then threw a seat over the partition, hitting him on the head and knocking off his turban.
A plastic bottle of lemonade was also lobbed into the cab which soaked the driver.
One yob then escaped by smashing one of the windows with a glass hammer taken from the bus.
A number of people also got off the bus and fled towards the Claregate pub.
The ugly scenes erupted on Friday between 3pm and 3.35pm.
Travel West Midlands spokesman Phil Bateman described the attack as horrific and unacceptable.
