One of the busiest roads in the centre of Cheslyn Hay will be closed for the whole of this week while work is carried out to revamp the layout in the heart of the village.

Low Street closed today until Friday so heavy duty work could be completed on the £90,000 project.

Traffic will be diverted via Cross Street and High Street and there will be traffic lights to control the flow.

The pavement has already been extended next to Chapel Square, as part of the scheme, which centres around the war memorial junction, thereby reducing the width of the start of Station Street.

It is hoped the changes will make it easier and safer for pedestrians to reach the war memorial which is currently cut off by traffic between Low Street, Station Street and High Street.

The narrow stretch of road between the war memorial and the nearest house will eventually be block paved to make it safer for people to pay their respects.
