Elderly residents in north Lichfield are urging police to step up patrols in their community following a spate of vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

One woman - who asked not to be named - said the on-going problems had got worse in recent weeks.

And she said it is the residents of Marks Walk and Judes Walk, off Eastern Avenue - who are mostly elderly and/or disabled - who are most affected.

She revealed that the most recent incidents have included bricks being thrown through bungalow windows."Youngsters were throwing bricks at the window of one bungalow in Marks Walk and the elderly lady came out and shouted at them," she said.

"They then went down the road and smashed a window on another bungalow.

"A few days later a brick went through the window of another elderly resident's bungalow in Judes Walk.

"The police came and the window was boarded up. Unfortunately the occupant, like a lot of people round here, has got no insurance.

"A car parked at the back of Marks Walk has also been vandalised and the items on the side of it pulled off.

"Local people are fed up. The police are not doing enough."

Peter Stevens, spokesman for Staffordshire Police, said: "We want people to tell us about anti-social behaviour. It is one of our top priorities.

"Following the concern of people in this area, we will be stepping up patrols. If anyone in this area has any information about who is causing these problems the police will act upon it.

"Officers will go to see the families of these young people and tell their parents what is going on.

"And if parents live in that area and know their children are misbehaving and causing problems, they need to be speaking to them."
