Motorists on the M6 will have to put up with yet more roadworks just a month after re-surfacing work was completed near Junction 12.

A new noise reduction surface will be installed on a 2.5 mile stretch from Penkridge to Junction 13 in the final phase of a £5.5 million project.

Work will start on January 8 and will not be completed until the end of April.

Highways bosses have pledged to keep three lanes open in both directions during peak hours.

But a speed limit of 40mph will be imposed and drivers have been warned to allow more time for their journeys.

Bosses at the Highways Agency say the new surface will reduce noise from traffic which nearby residents have complained about.

The new road surface will be laid over the existing concrete carriageway which should make the road quieter and also smoother for drivers.

Additional work to improve safety will see a new concrete barrier in the central reservation and better road markings.
