A Cheslyn Hay woman is devastated after burglars broke into her home, weeks after the death of her mother, and stole sentimental items she cannot replace.

It is the second time Susan Portlock's home in Streets Lane has been burgled in two years. The 57-year-old had returned to work at Sainsbury's in Cannock yesterday for the first time since her mother died, when the burglars struck.

A colleague discovered the £6,000 raid, which happened between 11am and 1.30pm, when she delivered cards to her house.

Among the items taken was the engagement ring belonging to her mother, who died five weeks ago aged 88.

Mrs Portlock said: "I am disgusted. These thugs want taking off the streets."

Also taken was a locket Mrs Portlock's late aunt and uncle bought her at the age of 18 and a poodle brooch she had from when she was 10. Bracelets, bangles, a gold chain and a white gold necklace were also taken, in a lilac jewellery box, together with a laptop and camera.

Anyone with information is asked to call Cannock police on 008453 30 20 10.
