Thieves have broken into a Cannock school and stolen £300 in cash but left Christmas presents for the children behind .

Teachers at Moorhill Primary School discovered the break-in this morning but say no child will suffer as a result of the theft.

Forensics officers at the scene this morning and say they have found fingerprints and evidence which could lead them to those responsible.

The thieves smashed their way into a storeroom at the school on Moorland Road last night using a crowbar and made of with £300 in cash which was raised from a school disco, raffle and for a Christmas dinner.

Headteacher Sandra Peck has attacked the thieves but said the school was relieved the presents had not been stolen.

She said: "We have obviously got some really stupid thieves who just seem to break in and make a mess.

"We have now removed anything of value so they can't strike again."

Mrs Peck appealed for anyone with information to contact police and praised parents saying: "They have been really supportive."
