Angry residents living in flood-hit Bewdley today hit out at the Environment Agency's decision not to use barriers to protect their homes. Angry residents living in flood-hit Bewdley today hit out at the Environment Agency's decision not to use barriers to protect their homes. The River Severn rose over the four metre mark during the weekend and flooded Stourport Road along Beales Corner - the worst affected part of the town. Hundreds of sandbags were laid around homes and water was just an inch away from the doorsteps. The town's £11 million defences were used successfully again with demountable barriers on Severn Side North and Severn Side South raised to 3ft.
