Bra-vo for Beatties support
It's bra-vo to Beatties department store in Wolverhampton as it is the latest Black Country company to pledge its backing to our Thanks For Your Support cancer campaign.
Store staff who spend their working day surrounded by lingerie needed little encouragement to get behind the campaign, urging people to donate their old bras for charity.
Hayley Barnes, pictured, sales manager of the store's lingerie department, has been nominated the store's 'bra boss' and has created a special bra bin for the unwanted skimpies.
"We've got a pink bin for members of staff to drop in their unwanted bras and a tin to collect their £1 donations at the same time," she said.
The Express & Star campaign aims to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support. More than 60 groups and individuals have signed up to our Thanks For Your Support campaign - but please don't let it stop there.
Companies, schools, colleges and groups have been signing up to donate their old bras and bikini tops for recycling while collecting £1 from each person at the same time.
Shop workers, firefighters, line dancers and staff at pubs and health clubs are among the many of our readers who have come out in force to back the campaign.
But we want more of you to sign up. Cheryl Bradburne, Macmillan's fundraising manager, said: "We are so grateful to everyone who has pledged their support to the campaign. It's getting a brilliant response."
The Express & Star's "bra boss" Trish Penny, who created a special bra bin for staff, said she was thrilled at the level of response.
"Some of the companies who have registered to date have had some moving stories to tell why they have come on board," she said.
"Every single bra makes a difference towards our target so make sure you register today to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support," she added.
We need you to register to take part to raise as much money as possible for the charity. We want companies, schools, colleges, groups, perhaps streets to register and encourage as many people as possible to donate their old bras and bikini tops for recycling while collecting £1 from each person at the same time.
Starting November 3, recycling firm JP Wilcox of Bilston, along with a Macmillan representative, will collect all the bras and money.
