Mums-to-be who wear it well
With a growing bump, mum-to-be Emily Bridgewater delves into the wardrobes of pregnant celebrities...

It was a defining moment in my life. My once much-loved, perfectly fitting jeans suddenly felt just that bit too snug; the buttons straining like I'd gorged on a week of Christmas dinners.
Ten weeks into my pregnancy, my precious denims – the fit of which determine how virtuous I've been that week – were no longer comfortable. It was time to succumb to maternity wear, or maternity jeans at least.
My first trip to Mothercare's maternity wear department was a revelation; stepping into a pair of stretchy jeans complete with thick elasticated waistband, I wondered why I hadn't worn them all along, baby or no baby. I bought two pairs and haven't looked back, they are my greatest pregnancy investment so far. It wasn't until then that I realised how important it was for me to feel good in jeans; teamed with a T-shirt or sweater, they are my out of office uniform.
So far I haven't had to invest in much else – six-and-a-half months in and I still look like I've just had a few too many roast spuds. However, as I approach month seven, I know my current wardrobe might not last much longer. So I'm looking to some expectant celebrity mums for style inspiration. Here are my top five:
Cat Deeley

West Brom-born mum-to-be recently demonstrated that pregnancy doesn't signal the end of glamour, appearing on the red carpet in a floor-length gold gown and sky-high Christian Louboutin heels. She said: "I am not going to get mumsy!" The 38-year-old has also been an off-duty beacon of style papped in skinny jeans, sparkly flat sandals and smock top which flatters her growing bump. She really does look like the Cat that got the cream.
Coleen Rooney

Mrs Wayne Rooney is expecting her third child in January yet has not compromised her love of fashion. She was pictured wearing slim-leg trousers and floating Valentino star-print shirt and, while the bank balance helps, maternity ranges at New Look and Red Herring at Debenhams both stock similar styles at more purse-friendly prices.
Blake Lively

Although she gave birth to daughter James in December, her maternity style still serves as inspiration. Heavily pregnant last winter, she showcased her bump in curve-enhancing woollies, capes and skinny jeans and knee-high boots. The California tan and having hunky hubby Ryan Reynolds on your arm certainly helps.
Ferne Cotton

Boho queen Ferne didn't ever fail to disappoint in the style stakes when she was carrying son Rex and, more recently, daughter Honey. Her love of 70s fashion served her well, complementing her growing shape with A-line dresses, pea coats and chunky tights.
Duchess of Cambridge

Twice mum Kate Middleton always displays chic when it comes to dressing her bump. Long-line coats and dresses with above-the-bump enhancing details were her wardrobe staples – perfect for the office or a special occasion.
And one to forget. . . Kim Kardashian

While I'm all for remaining glam during pregnancy, Mrs Kardashian-West takes it to the extreme with her skin-tight nude-colour dresses and see-through ankle strap heels. Pregnancy isn't necessarily a time to hide yourself in smocks but I can't see her fashion choices are either flattering or comfortable. They should be both – time for a rethink, Kim.
