  1. Nothing. Sometimes there doesn’t have to be a reason so grab some tissues and have a good sniffle.

  2. Going on holiday. They’re happy tears. All that preparation and excitement it’s been building up for ages and it’s finally here.

  3. Charity adverts. You’re human and you have a heart and it makes you realise how lucky you are.

  4. That bad haircut. You had an image in your mind of a glamorous model not a hacked-to-pieces bird’s nest.

  5. Broken heel. They were your favourite shoes and they’re ruined beyond repair.

  6. Broken nail. You’d been growing them for ages and now one’s split and isn’t the same length as the others. Manicure ruined.

  7. The cooking disaster. The cake hasn’t risen, the sauce is lumpy, it’s inedible. You tried your hardest but you’re no Nigella.

  8. A TV programme or movie. Sometimes things just move you.

  9. Spilling red wine on your gorgeous white dress/silk blouse. It’ll never come out and the white wine method doesn’t work.

  10. When your other half goes away for a few days it’s nice to have your own space but you’ll miss the company and cuddles.

  11. Buying a new car. OK it’s nice and new but you’ve got to let go of your old one and you’ve had some good times together.

  12. Breaking a special keepsake. It was your nan’s/mum’s and it’s got sentimental value.

  13. Losing your childhood teddy bear. It got thrown out by mistake/lost in a move. It was your best friend once and now it’s gone forever.
